About UK mattress sizes UK mattress sizes are quoted in centimetres and in feet and inches, and the names do not line up with US names. The profile on this page uses the five standard UK sizes listed in the retailer size guide cited below: Single 90 by 190 cm, Small Double 120 by 190 cm, Double 135 by 190 cm, King 150 by 200 cm and Super King 180 by 200 cm. Use the unit control to see the same reviewed dimensions in inches.
The two UK lengths UK sizes come in two lengths. Single, Small Double and Double are 190 cm long, about 6 ft 3 in. King and Super King are 200 cm long, about 6 ft 7 in. A tall sleeper moving from a Double to a King gains 10 cm of length as well as 15 cm of width, which is a different trade-off from the US system, where Full, Queen and King share lengths in pairs.
Width per sleeper A Single is 90 cm wide for one person. A Small Double at 120 cm gives one adult extra room or a tight fit for two. A Double at 135 cm gives two adults 67.5 cm each, a King at 150 cm gives 75 cm each, and a Super King at 180 cm gives 90 cm each, which is the width of a whole Single per person.
Names that mislead across borders A UK King is 150 by 200 cm, about 59 by 79 inches, which is close to a US Queen rather than a US King. A UK Super King at 180 by 200 cm is still narrower than a US King. A UK Double at 135 by 190 cm is about 2 cm narrower and half a centimetre shorter than a US Full. The US versus UK versus EU page on this site puts the three systems side by side with the same reviewed figures; use it before ordering bedding or a frame from another market.
Measuring the frame Bed frames add to the mattress footprint, and divan bases in the UK are usually the same size as the mattress while headboards and footboards project. Measure the outside of the frame, convert to inches if the room calculator is set that way, and check both orientations in the room with the clearances you want.
Check both orientations, nightstands and the walking space you want.
