Bedding is sized to the mattress it covers, but the names are not exact dimensions: fitted sheets add a few inches of pocket depth, flat sheets and duvet covers overhang by design, and comforters are sold in ranges rather than single sizes. The figures on this page are the Sleep Foundation bedding charts cited below, read in October 2026, and they apply to the US sizes used across this site.

Fitted sheets

A fitted sheet matches the mattress top and wraps around the sides. The cited chart lists Twin fitted sheets at 39 by 76 inches for a 38 by 75 inch mattress, Full at 54 by 75, Queen at 60 by 80, California King at 73 by 85 for a 72 by 84 inch mattress, and Crib at 28 by 52 inches, the lower end of the chart's 52 to 54 inch crib length range, which is close to the full-size crib interior described on the kids page. The same chart lists a King fitted sheet at 73 by 80 inches, which is narrower than the 76 inch King mattress; treat that entry as a reminder to buy King sheets by the mattress measurement and pocket depth printed on the package rather than by the size name alone. Pocket depth matters as much as width: measure the mattress height, add any topper, and choose a pocket at least that deep.

Flat sheets

Flat sheets are much larger than the mattress because they tuck in on three sides. The cited sizes are Twin 72 by 102 inches, Full 96 by 102, Queen 92 by 108, King 110 by 114 and California King 111 by 114. Note that a Full flat sheet is wider than a Queen flat sheet in this chart, while the Queen is longer; sets from other brands follow their own patterns.

Duvet covers and bed skirts

Duvet covers are listed as ranges: Twin 74 by 98 inches, Full 80 to 90 by 89 to 94, Queen 88 to 90 by 90 to 94, King 104 by 90 to 94 and California King 114 to 116 by 96 to 100. A duvet cover should match the duvet insert, not the mattress, so check the insert's label first. Bed skirts match the mattress top: Twin 39 by 75, Full 54 by 75, Queen 60 by 80, King 78 by 80 and California King 72 by 84 inches, with the drop length chosen for the frame height.

Comforters

Comforters are also listed as ranges because overhang is a matter of taste: Twin 66 to 68 by 86 to 90 inches, Twin XL 68 by 86 to 90, Full 78 to 88 by 86 to 92, Queen 86 to 90 by 90 to 100, King 90 to 108 by 86 to 108 and California King 90 to 110 by 92 to 108. To choose within a range, add the overhang you want on each side to the mattress width, and remember that a thick mattress uses up more of the overhang than a thin one.

Pillows

Standard pillows are 20 by 26 inches, Queen pillows 20 by 30, King pillows 20 by 36, Euro pillows 26 by 26 and body pillows 20 by 54, according to the cited guide. Two Standard or Queen pillows fit across a Full or Queen mattress; two King pillows span a 76 inch King. Pillowcases follow the same names, with a few inches of extra length for the flap or envelope.

Special cases

A Split King uses two Twin XL fitted sheets and one King flat sheet and comforter. Oversized mattresses such as Wyoming, Texas and Alaskan King need bedding from specialist makers; nothing in these charts fits them. Nonstandard sizes such as Full XL, Olympic Queen and RV Short Queen are covered on their own pages, and their sheets are usually sold by exact dimensions rather than by name.
