About Australian mattress sizes Australian mattress sizes are quoted in centimetres and use their own set of names. The profile on this page follows the Australian bed size guide cited below: Cot 69 by 130 cm, Single 92 by 188 cm, Long Single 92 by 203 cm, King Single 107 by 203 cm, Double 138 by 188 cm, Queen 153 by 203 cm, King 183 by 203 cm and Super King 203 by 203 cm. Use the unit control to see the same reviewed dimensions in inches.
Two lengths Australian sizes come in two lengths. Single and Double are 188 cm long, about 6 ft 2 in. Long Single, King Single, Queen, King and Super King are 203 cm long, about 6 ft 8 in, the same length as a US Queen or King. A tall sleeper moving from a Double to a Queen therefore gains 15 cm of length as well as 15 cm of width.
Width per sleeper A Single is 92 cm wide and a Long Single keeps that width at the longer length. A King Single at 107 cm is a wider single bed often sold for teenagers and guest rooms. A Double at 138 cm gives two adults 69 cm each, a Queen at 153 cm gives 76.5 cm each, a King at 183 cm gives 91.5 cm each, and a Super King at 203 cm gives 101.5 cm each, which is more than a whole Single per person.
How Australian sizes relate to US sizes An Australian Queen at 153 by 203 cm is within a centimetre of a US Queen, which is 60 by 80 inches, about 152 by 203 cm; Queen bedding bought in either market usually fits the other. An Australian King at 183 by 203 cm has the width of a US California King and the length of a US King, so it matches neither exactly: a US King is 76 by 80 inches, about 193 by 203 cm, 10 cm wider. An Australian Double at 138 by 188 cm is close to a US Full, 54 by 75 inches, about 137 by 190.5 cm. An Australian Single at 92 by 188 cm is about 4.5 cm narrower and 2.5 cm shorter than a US Twin. The Super King at 203 by 203 cm, about 80 by 80 inches, is larger than any standard US size.
One guide, not a national standard The dimensions here come from a single Australian review guide, which is the clearest current listing we could record and verify by hash. Australian retailers and manufacturers agree closely on these figures, but there is no single legal standard, and individual mattresses can differ by a centimetre or two. Measure the mattress you own and the outside of the frame before ordering sheets, a base or a frame, and treat the names as a starting point rather than a guarantee.
Check both orientations, nightstands and the walking space you want.
