Air mattress sizes

Air mattresses borrow the names of household mattress sizes, but the footprint and especially the height differ by model.

Air mattresses borrow the names of household mattress sizes, but the footprint and especially the height differ by model. The reference points on this page are the Intex Dura-Beam product pages cited below, read in October 2026: Twin airbeds of 39 by 75 inches and Queen airbeds of 60 by 80 inches, in heights of 10, 12, 18 and 22 inches depending on the model.

Footprint compared with a household mattress

The Intex Twin footprint is 39 by 75 inches, about 99 by 190.5 cm. That is one inch wider than the 38 by 75 inch Twin mattress in this site's US profile, so a Twin fitted sheet may be tight and a Twin frame or trundle base may be a close fit. The Intex Queen footprint is 60 by 80 inches, about 152 by 203 cm, the same as a Queen mattress, so Queen fitted sheets fit the width and length. Because the sides of an inflated mattress bulge, the inflated edge can sit slightly outside these nominal figures.

Height is the real variable

The same footprint is sold at very different heights. In the cited range, a Queen Pillow Rest Classic is 10 inches high, the Pillow Rest and Prestige mid-rise models are 12 inches, the Deluxe Ultra Plush Twin is 18 inches, and the Control Comfort Queen is 22 inches. Low models are easier to store and carry; raised models are easier to get in and out of and keep the sleeper further from a cold floor. A raised model also needs a deep-pocket fitted sheet, since a standard pocket of about 12 to 15 inches will not reach around a 22 inch mattress.

Room space

Plan the floor space with the same rules as a fixed bed: the footprint plus walking room on the open sides, plus space at the head or foot for the pump cable if the model has a built-in electric pump. The room calculator on this site accepts Twin and Queen footprints, so it can check an air mattress position using the nominal rectangle; enter the frame option only if the airbed sits on a frame or cot.

Other sizes and other brands

Full and King air mattresses exist, and camping models come in narrower single widths and lower heights, but their dimensions vary by brand and are not recorded on this site. Check the manufacturer's dimensions for the exact model, because two mattresses sold as the same size can differ by an inch in width and by more than a foot in height.
