RV mattress sizes

RV mattresses use familiar names for smaller rectangles. The profile on this page uses the common RV sizes listed in the RV mattress guide cited below: RV Bunk 28 by 75 inches, Three-Quarter 48 by 75 inches, RV Full 53 by 75 inches, RV Short Queen 60 by 74 inches, RV Queen 60 by 80 inches, RV King 72 by 80 inches and RV California King 72 by 84 inches. Several of these names cover more than one size, so the figures are a starting point for measuring, not a guarantee.

Short Queen is the one to check

An RV Short Queen is the same 60-inch width as a standard Queen but 5 or 6 inches shorter. The cited guide lists 60 by 74 inches and 60 by 75 inches; another retailer guide lists 60 by 75 inches. A standard 80-inch Queen mattress will not fit a platform built for a Short Queen, and Short Queen sheets are sold separately. Measure the platform before replacing the mattress.

Bunk and Three-Quarter sizes

RV bunk mattresses are narrow: the cited guide lists 28 by 75 inches as common, with 30 by 75, 30 by 80, 34 by 75 and 35 by 79 inch variants. A Three-Quarter at 48 by 75 inches sits between a Twin and a Full and is also sold at 48 by 80 inches. Because bunk platforms are built into the vehicle, the platform dimension decides the mattress, not the other way round.

Sizes that match household mattresses

An RV Queen at 60 by 80 inches and an RV California King at 72 by 84 inches are the same nominal rectangles as the household Queen and California King on this site, so household bedding fits them. An RV King at 72 by 80 inches is 4 inches narrower than a household King at 76 by 80 inches; King fitted sheets are loose on it. An RV Full at 53 by 75 inches is 1 inch narrower than a household Full.

Measuring an RV platform

Measure the platform's length and width at the mattress edges, note any cut corners or angled ends, and record the height available under cabinets or a raised bed. Many RV mattresses are sold with radius corners or reduced thickness to fit those constraints, and the household room calculator on this site does not model vehicle platforms.
